The filmmaker George Melies was at first a magician and movies prove to be almost the ultimate magic. Movie makers developed a collection of techniques to further their deceptions. Motion picture itself is basically an illusion of life. They leverage this separation from reality to great effect. The way we play with the world and our perceptions of it is the essence of visual effects. It's a way of taking our knowledge of the world and changing it up or making it something else. You can take something that seems impossible in reality and then make it seem possible on the screen. Most people think that using your imagination and creativity is the best part of film making and I believe so myself.
Visual effects are based on three principles of all illusion. This reveals some truth behind the trickery. First there is assumption, things are as we know them. Second there is presumption, things will behave as we expect. Last there is context in reality, our knowledge of the world as we know it. Something else to know is never betray the illusion. Now, even today people still loose themselves and get lost to the screen. There is an evolution of visual effects and I think its cool just to watch how visual effects have changed and developed throughout the years.
I liked this talk because it taught me some important things on visual effects. Visual effects is a really fascinating topic to talk about for me because you can use your imagination to take something and switch it up and make it different. It can even change the way you think of things and it can change your ideas. There's a man that once said that films have the power to capture dreams.
